Recruitment & Retention

As Maine and the nation as a whole experience a severe and growing shortage among primary care physicians and dentists, MPCA has developed programs and created innovate ways for over 12 years to continue to match the mission of Maine’s health centers with the passionate clinicians of today and tomorrow.

Engaging Today’s Clinicians

MPCA reaches clinicians statewide, regionally and across the country in person, in print and online.  Throughout the year MPCA is present at trade shows and clinical conferences to recruit clinicians to Maine.  In addition, MPCA posts job opportunities on regional and national online job banks while including advertisements in medical journals and online forums.

To enhance our web presence, MPCA created a YouTube channel featuring a series of videos for medical, dental and behavioral health professionals.  The series is also available on DVD and is distributed to candidates to provide them with a sense of the health center setting and life in Maine.                    YouTubeWidget

Building & Shaping the Future of Primary Care

Since 1993, MPCA has worked with and supported nearly 700 medical student placements and resident rotations across Maine through our SEARCH Program.  As a result of their time in Maine and their experience at a community health center, many of our SEARCH alumnus have returned to practice at one of our member health centers.

Moving Beyond Recruitment to Community Improvement

MPCA works with health centers to develop site and community profiles that are used to capture the story of a health center and the community it serves.  These efforts not only provide interested clinicians with an overview of a health center, but also allow MPCA to help identify components of a community which could be enhanced to increase the appeal to prospective clinicians.

Developing the Practices of Choice

Maine’s community health centers have been leaders in the latest advancements in primary care.  From integrating behavioral health care into the primary care setting, to the adoption of health information technology, to clinical quality improvement initiatives such as the Patient Centered Medical Home model, community health centers have consistently worked to improve the patient experience and the flow of patient information.

Public Policy Efforts to Support Clinicians
& the Patients they Serve

MPCA represents the collective voices of Maine’s health centers by developing and engaging in public policy initiatives to strengthen health centers and the patients they serve in addition to organizing advocacy efforts to encourage community members to communicate with their local policymakers on the vital role of health centers.
